Borrower Responsibilities
Familiarize yourself with the access, borrower services, and circulation policies and procedures information available from Library Policies and Procedures. Feel free to ask questions at any library service desk, via inquiries to the Libraries’ Ask a Librarian Service, or by contacting the Circulation Business Office (in person at the Watson Library Service Desk, 8 a.m.—5 p.m., Monday—Friday, by phone to 785.864.4715, or via email to libfines@ku.edu).
Bring your KU Card or KU Library Borrower Card with you when you come to the library.
You are responsible for what you check out. Pay attention to loan periods, due dates, recalls, and return policies. Read the notices received. You are responsible for keeping track of when your checked out items are due and for returning and/or renewing the items on or before the date and time due.
Recalls can happen at any time! Borrowers who will be physically away from the items checked out should be prepared to arrange for the return of library materials if they are recalled and to renew or return items when they become due. KU items are subject to recall at any time and will need to be returned within 14 days of the recall date to avoid overdue charges.
Overdue notices are sent as a courtesy. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not remove the borrower’s obligation to return material by the date and time due or by the recall due date, nor does it constitute grounds for reducing or canceling overdue or lost item charges.
Report updates to your email and postal mailing address as they occur to ensure you receive communications from the University of Kansas Libraries. See Address Changes for details.
