The University of Kansas Libraries Human Resources Office is located on the fifth floor of Watson Library in the Administrative Office. Human Resources provides services for all University of Kansas Libraries. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

EMPLOYMENT PROCEDURES

Classified Positions
Library classified staff positions are State Civil Service positions and are posted on the KU jobs Web site along with all other campus staff vacancies. Applications are accepted online and only for specifically advertised vacancies.

Librarian Positions (Faculty Status)
Librarian positions are academic tenure track appointments and require a Masters in Library Science (MLS) degree from an ALA accredited university. When vacancies occur, they are posted on the KU Libraries Web site as well as being advertised in a number of publications and listservs. Application procedures are outlined in the advertisements. Applications are accepted only for specifically advertised vacancies.

Student Positions
During the semester term of the appointment, the student employee must be enrolled at KU in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student's paid by the hour may be undergraduate or graduate students. A 10-hour per week minimum is required for the majority of student positions. Appointment(s) to any combination of student job titles during the academic year cannot exceed the equivalent of a 75% appointment (30 hours weekly). Most international students may not work over 50% time (20 hours weekly) during the academic year due to Visa restrictions. Employment during the summer, when classes are not in session, or between academic sessions may be at the 100% level. Total hours worked on all combined appointments should never exceed 40 hours per week. All jobs are posted online at KU jobs Web site and applications are received online.

Unclassified Professional Positions
Unclassified professional positions are professional non-tenure track appointments. Unclassified academic staff has education, degrees and/or experience equivalent to those of the academic faculty and support the academic mission of the university. Academic Staff members shall be selected and appointed in accordance with prevailing policies for teaching faculty, including appropriate search, interview and review. These vacancies are posted on the KU Libraries Web site and the KU jobs Web site as well as being posted on various listservs and one of the local newspapers. Applications are accepted online through the KU jobs Web site. Applications are accepted only for specifically advertised vacancies.

Student and Classified Staff positions are posted on the KU jobs Web site. Search for any position in the JOB TITLE drop down menu that begins with the word "Library" for classified staff positions or "Libraries" for student positions. Under JOB CATEGORY, search under "Classified Support Staff", Student Hourly or Student Work Study and to search under DEPARTMENT NAME try anything beginning with the word "Libraries."

Unclassified Professional and Librarian positions are also posted on the KU jobs Web site as well as the KU Libraries homepage under employment.
