Nominations will be accepted for the Gretchen and Gene A. Budig Distinguished Librarian Award for 2013. The $3,000 award is presented annually to a library faculty member who demonstrates meritorious professional performance and service. The award, endowed by the Budigs in 2001, succeeds the Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Librarianship that Gene Budig initiated in 1989 during his tenure as KU Chancellor. Criteria Librarians at the University of Kansas are evaluated first and foremost on the performance of their professional responsibilities. Therefore, the primary criterion for selection of the recipient is a strong record of professional performance. In addition, the recipient will demonstrate a record of active professional service and scholarship, as well as a strong reputation among professional colleagues. The award is intended to recognize the lifetime achievements of an individual however, in the absence of lifetime achievements, recent significant achievements will also be considered. Eligibility To be eligible for nomination, a librarian must have completed five years at the faculty rank with the two most recent years on the library faculty at the University of Kansas, prior to the date nominations are due, June, 19, 2013 (please submit to Kim Anderson, kande11@ku.edu). Nomination Procedures A call for nominations will be made annually by the Libraries administration. Any person or group of persons affiliated with the University of Kansas may nominate an individual. Nominators are asked to supply the following information to the Selection Committee:
It is recommended (but not required) that the nominator inform the nominee of her/his nomination, and consult the nominee for names of colleagues, both at the University of Kansas and beyond, who are knowledgeable of the nominee's contributions to librarianship.
