IS Diversity Committee's Minutes Archive
May 14th, 2007 meeting
Attending: Erin, Channette, Michelle, Donna, Sherry, Julie
We were not able to meet with the Dean today, but hope to have the opportunity
soon.
We had more comments and feeback on the Duigiud event—do we want
these on the G: drive? (no, Erin will send out as email). All
in all, there was high satisfaction with the workshop and it was a good
chance to meet new people, especially on the IT side. Other
info will be available on G:drvie as necessary.
On May 2, Erin and Julie met with Rebecca Smith about publicity for the
Kevin Willmott event. It has been confirmed that the workshop will
be on May 21st at the Computer Center auditorium. Erin will send
out another list of ‘to do’ assignments, though most of it
has already been accomplished.
Channette will keep in contact with Prof. Willmott (especially regarding
the honorarium).
Should we invite our students to the event? Do we pay them, if so? It
was decided that DIVCOM members who have students around on that day
may encourage them to go and will pay them, but it will not be offered
to all students at this time. Future events may be different, but
the timing is too close to resolve issues with payroll, supervisor approval,
etc.
RSVP to Rita with number of students attending. Julie will check
status of RSVP with Rita on the 16th or 17th.
The SLIM internship is still moving ahead, though slowly. It hasn’t
been abandoned, we’ve been assured. We talked about the next
big National Diversity in Libraries conference which will occur in Oct. ’08. We
would definitely like to have 2 or 3 committee members attend.
At the Willmott event, we will encourage people to join the Diversity
Committee! There will also be an email going out in the next day
or so from IS asking for volunteers.
Next event-possibly in July-with Terry Proctor and Sharon Musgrave about
Aging in the Workplace.
