Think about what to present at the general meeting after the KULSS Executive Board election. |
New Business
- Kristin Zachrel presented the idea to create a page on the KULSS website documenting various professional development resources available to Support Staff including:
- Information about getting involved in Reference Desk shifts
- Training sessions
- Education opportunities (SLIM, KU)
- Tuition Assistance (KU, Regents)
- Career resources (resume assistance, communication with HR, information about the search process)
- Nancy suggested contacting Beth Warner for consideration to include this as Mentoring Committee Community of Interest.
End of Year Report
According to Dean Haricombe an official end of the year report isn’t necessary, but she would like to know what we’ve been up to. We can send her a summary before the General Meeting in July, which she would like to attend and make opening remarks. Include a bulleted list of our accomplishments and feedback we've received.
- Met with John Stratton to discuss role of the Senate and their priorities.
- Cross Training
- Wiki
- Mini-conference
- Working w/ LFPA & Senate
- Meredith’s involvement in SSEYA
General Meeting
- Date: Thursday, July 15th
- Time: 10:00
- Location: Spencer North Gallery
- Someone will need to go shopping for refreshments. We'll need to decide what all we'll need.
- Do we want to play a game this year? Office Bingo or some other type of game?
- Meredith can contribute 2 Spencer t-shirts as prizes.
Other
- Is there any interest in getting a library group together to get discount tickets to the T-Bones or the Symphony. Bring this up at the group meeting to see if there’s any interest.
- Is there interest in volunteering a group of librarians at the State Fair?
- Kristin doesn't have access to the KULSS G drive. Contact Monica Claasen-Wilson about getting permissions to access this part of the G drive.
- Sheila could coordinate a Therapy Works session for next year's Spring Conference for us.
Group Reports
Group 1 (Kyle):
- Nobody has expressed interest in running for Group 1 representative for 2011.
- In Preservation Kyle has been dealing with retrieving documents of emergency plans for the Emergency Preparedness meeting on June 10th. Documents being retrieved are for collections emergencies (ie. what to do in the event of a water leak). There will likely be a meeting in July about this.
- Preservation is starting the Wilcox project.
- The search for an Electronic Resources Librarian in Acquisitions/Serials is moving forward.
Group 2 (Adam):
- Support staff attended the open presentations for the Assistant Head of Cataloging position.
- The G & T drives were full. Mary Roach sent out an email stating that work was being done to resolve the problem.
Group 3 (Sheila): Nothing to report.
Group 4 (Meredith):
- Shawn Wade is interested in the Grievance Committee.
- The image lab is having an open house on June 10th from 10:30-noon.
- Deborah is holding the Sumner Reunion.
- Interviews have been completed for the Head of Reader Services and Head of Cataloging/Head of Spencer Research Library Processing positions.
- The first candidate for the Special Collections Librarian position will interview on June 11th. The 2 other candidates will interview on July 1st and 2nd.
- Susan Thomas, student employee, just finished coding the McKinney Collection of LGBTQ materials. A meeting will be held at a later date to determine where to house this collection.
- Anschutz reference desk has moved and the entrance to the Anschutz instruction center is now on the other side of the desk.
Committee Reports
Support Staff Senate: Nothing to report.
University Committee on Libraries:
- The committee is finished until the fall semester.
- A new Support Staff representative is needed for this committee. They usually meet about once a semester. Sheila Orth volunteered and will be added to the election ballot.
Planning & Resources Committee (PRC): Committee is not meeting.
Mentoring Committee: Nothing to report since the last meeting was canceled.
Meeting Updates
Deans Council (next: 6/11?): Nothing to report.
Management Council (next: ?): Nothing to report.
Dean’s KULSS (next: July or August):
- Update on mini-retreats with the Assistant Deans: The Dean thinks it’s a great idea but it hasn’t happened because of time spent on the decoupling and strategic plan. She plans to talk to the AD’s about having meetings with their groups. It would be good to start having the AD's attend the all-staff meetings for Q&A. We should make a statement at the general meeting asking about interest in having mini-retreats with the AD’s.
- Discussed expectations for the Management Council retreat and sent out an agenda for the June retreat. The theme is transformation in collaboration.
- Mike discussed the Grievance Committee Task Force. He advised that because there are so many different avenues for bringing up grievances there isn’t a need for the committee anymore. Grievances are dealt with on a case by case basis through HR or Ombuds. There will no longer be a Grievance Committee.
Concerns to bring up with the Dean: The next meeting will be held in July or August with Julie Warrick, Nancy Hawkins, Jill Becker, and Meredith Huff. Julie and Nancy will be passing the torch off to Jill and Meredith.
