Group Reports

Group 1 (Adam):

  • Cataloging threw a baby shower for Erin Pfannenstiel, Joel, and Grace. She brought the baby to the party. There were lots of gifts.

Group 2 (Julie):

  • Jessica Gish is doing the plant care in room 225. There could be a plant care day at some point to get people to help with cleaning up the dead plants and trying to revive some of them that aren’t doing well.
  • Julie's completed a shift in 2 West. She plans to start shifting in 2 ½ West possibly this week.

Group 3 (Robert):

  • Robert is picking out plants for Anschutz.
  • University Relations did a film shoot in Anschutz.
  • Anschutz is having a fire alarm test today to try out the speakers at 12:30. They are also putting lights up that will blink when there’s an emergency, as well as installing new smoke detectors.

Committee Reports

Support Staff Senate:

  • Mary Ann sent an email about voting for changes to the code.

University Committee on Libraries: Nothing to report.

Mentoring Committee: Nothing to report.

Libraries Organizational Staff Development Committee (LOSDC): Nothing to report.

Meeting Updates

Management Council (next mtg: 3/16): Nothing to report.

Dean's KULSS (next mtg: 4/5): Nothing to report.

Concerns to Bring up with the Dean:

  • Dean's 5 Year Review Committee: Judith Emde and John Stratton are handling the problem that there are no Support Staff on the Review Committee. The Code specifies that an Unclassified Professional is sufficient but the Libraries are unique in that we have large number of Support Staff. It would take time for the Faculty Governance Group to amend the Code to include a Support Staff member and that would not happen before this review, so it will need to be done for next time. Everyone is aware that there Support Staff are not represented on this committee but we will have an opportunity to provide feedback and input. We’ll address changing the Code in the beginning of the next fiscal year. We'll work with the new chair, Sarah Goodwin-Thiel and get John to help.
  • We need to tell the Dean that no Support Staff are on this committee so she can be aware of it if someone brings it up.

Workshop Planning

Sessions

  • Lunch: Ann’s lunchtime presentation will last 30 minutes. We'll plan for her to start at 12:00 or 12:15. Robert will confirm if this time and duration will work and ask her about information tables.
    • Nutrition BMI computer program: Ann has a list in her computer to fill out height, weight, etc. that will compile BMI and how many nutrients you should have on daily basis. She’s willing to do this after her presentation. Since it’s a program she shouldn’t need the internet but Robert will double check. She should just need a printer. Robert will ask if there is a way she can email the results to people if we can’t provide a printer.
  • Yoga: we couldn't get this session for free. Sorcha's fee was too expensive ($8 per person). The Recreation Center will send 1 or 2 instructors for total of $40. We're still waiting for confirmation nf who instructors will be.
  • Massages: Denise is working on making arrangements for massages. She will know by next Tuesday if the person she spoke with can do it.
    • Assume the massage people will want 2 parking passes - Jill will talk to Kristin or Lanis about getting them passes.
  • Preserving Personal Collections: Roberta agreed to do this session even if she is not re-hired in her position.

Potluck Breakfast

  • Potluck breakfast: Jill will contact Kristin Vickers for an update.
  • Most people would probably rather bring food to Watson and we would need to transport it to Spencer. They need to bring the food to Watson between 7:30 and 7:45. If it's a cold item they can bring it the day before. If people want to bring food to Spencer they should contact Meredeith and ask for her at desk when they arrive.
  • If campus is open to drive thru traffic we could drive the food over to Spencer. Julie will find out if campus is open.
  • Meredith will see who’s opening that day to see if we can get in early.
  • Jules has a warming cooler to contribute and Jessica has a cooler with wheels.
  • Einstein Bagels is on Jessica's route so she could pick up food from there. We'll wait to see what we have coming in.
  • Jessica has 2 pitchers for water to contribute.
  • Add ice to the shopping list - Spencer has punch bowl that could be filled with ice.

Information Tables

  • Tech petting zoo: the tech shop is available but they can only provide Apple items (an iBook and iPad). We won't be able to get much use out of the iPad without wireless access. Robert will ask if they can bring more Apple items. We could probably shorten the time for this info table too.
  • Nutrition & tobacco cessation.
  • Sustainability in the workplace: Adam will contact Amalia about putting together an information table. She was interested in atttending the History of the Jayhawk presentation and if she does a table she could attend the session. The table would be up from 11:30-3:30 but she doesn’t have to be there the whole time.
  • Book Snakes: It's still up in the air if Roberta can do the book snakes. Some of it will depend on if she can get a student to help. She'll confirm yes or no by next week.
  • Picture slideshow: Exec should submit photos to combine with University Archive photos and cubicle art photos.
    • We will try to find a projector to display them. Anschutz has a portable one so Jill and Robert will see if it works.
    • We can set it up in the corridor off the North Gallery.
    • Collect photos by next meeting and we'll task someone to compile them next week.

Other

  • Spencer Logistics (Word document): Not to scale.
    • Set up the tables on the 22nd.
  • Caesar salad lunch option doesn’t have offer the choice for chicken or vegetable in the registration form. If anyone chooses this option Meredith will ask them.
  • Keith Russell is bring & Biziwe Tembe to observe or workshop.
  • Compile final shopping list and to bring list at the next meeting.
  • Meredith has student workers to help with the set up.
