Classified Conference of the KU Libraries

October 2, 2002

Guests: Sue Hewitt

Present: Mary Ann Baker (Chair), Kurt Blythe (Sec.), Jesse Bryson (Group I Rep.), Kevin Fussell (Group II Rep.), Lynn Koenig (Group IV Rep.)

Classified Senate Report: UPSA and Classified Senate have 1 person each on Campus PRC, which is overseeing the tuition increase on campus. Classified Senate is investigating the possibility of the CC becoming employees of the University. Classified Senate will be sending representative(s) to Kansas State for the Regents position paper. Finally, Classified Senate will have a table representing the Classified Senate at the coming Open House.

Staff Head Count Report: Classified Senate has discovered a report noting that, from 1984-2001, Administrative, Faculty and Unclassified Professional positions have steadily increased, while Classified positions have decreased.

KULSA Report: KULSA is endangered due to a concern on the part of the Administration and the Faculty over a lack of time and money for such activities. Money has been decided to be a non-factor as KULSA supports itself from dues. Time, then, is found to the chief impediment to KULSA's continued survival.

Watson Campus Phones: This initiative will be kept before the Dean.

Supervisory Training: Reps. shall continue to urge response from to this measure from their constituents.

Change of Assignment Procedures: This will be kept before the Dean.

IT Software Classes: This will be kept before the Dean.

LA Series Review Committee: This will be kept before the Dean.

Maintenance of KULSA: This will be kept before the Dean.

Staff Informative E-Mails: Kevin Fussell is charged with e-mailing parts of the staff handbook, Classified rights and responsibilities, and other informative pieces to the CC every 2 weeks, or after each meeting of the CCEB.

CCEB Website: It has been decided that Helen Krische Dee, despite her wholly satisfactory maintenance of the CCEB website, would benefit from having a backup. Kurt Blythe will check with Jim Dryden about the possible training of 1 or 2 backups for Helen. In addition, it has been decided that a website committee is necessary.

Website Content: This topic will be the focus of at least 1 entire meeting of the CCEB sometime in the future.

Supervisor of the Quarter Acknowledgement: Tabled.
