Classified Conference of the KU Libraries
September 25, 2002
Guests: Bob Marvin, Jeff McAdams, Tyca Griggs, Sue Hewitt, Al Mauler
Present: Mary Ann Baker (Chair), Kurt Blythe (Secretary), Jesse Bryson (Group I Rep.), Kevin Fussell (Group II Rep.), Janet Revenew (Group III Rep.), Lynn Koenig (Group IV Rep.)
PRC Report: Bob Marvin reported on behalf of the Planning & Resource Committee that the Dean has requested that they become more active in matters concerning the budget.
Diversity Committee Report: Jeff McAdams reported on behalf of the Diversity Committee that they have drafted and mailed a letter in protest over the closing of the Anthropology Museum. In addition, they are working on the creation of forums within the Libraries in the hopes of promoting the discussion of diverse topics. The Diversity Committee is encountering an excess of red tape in their effort to plant a tree in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., but this issue remains on their agenda.
CEYA Report: Al Mauler reported on behalf of the Classified Employee of the Year Award committee a desire of that body to standardize the nomination and selection process of the CEYA. Essentially, CEYA wishes to restrict the number of nominees an individual may nominate, and they want to change the nomination form in order to better facilitate a preliminary paper screening. The CEYA committee made these recommendations to a receptive Sandy Gilliland.
CCEB expressed a concern with the proposed limits on nominations and with the paper screening process. Sandy Gilliland is invited to attend a meeting of CCEB wherein she may listen to any and all concerns regarding this matter.
Group Rep. Reports: Group III has expressed concerns regarding CEYA's limiting of nominations.
Organizational Charts: All Groups are near completion.
CCPC: Mary Ann will check with the Library Administrative Office in the interest of compiling a current list of library committees and governance structure, along with current memberships of said committees and any other available & relevant information.
SDC: CCEB is investigating how charges are being given to joint committees. CCEB may wish to consider adding "stress management" and "dealing-with-change" workshops to the SDC list of charges.
Supervisor Training Input: Group Reps. are charged with motivating constituents to respond to this measure regardless of the nature of responses. LFA is also concerned with the subject of supervisor training.
KULSA: Sue Hewitt will be attending the Thursday meeting about the future of KULSA.
