Classified Conference Executive Board
Meeting Minutes
SPECIAL MEETING
Apr 14, 2005
Watson Conference Rm B, 2:00-3:00pm

PRESENT: Rebecca Claassen (Grp 1), Monica Claassen-Wilson (Vice-Chair), Kevin Fussell (Grp 2), Laura Horne (Chair), Angie Rathmel (Secretary), Denise Swartz (Grp 3), Robert Szabo (Grp 4)

ABSENT:

SDC as IS-Wide
Monica and Laura will meet with SDC and LFA tomorrow afternoon (4/15)

[See internal email: FW:CCEB related: LFA: update from SDC on how well working with IS members dated 4/6/05]
Laura replied to the above message that CCEB felt SDC was best able to make recommendations from their perspective (as they have LFA and CCEB reps). CCEB is not concerned with bylaw changes as they will likely change as a result of the Civil Service Employee change to University Support Staff.

LFA fears limited library focus and ultimately becoming administrative and thus dying out (as Orientation Committee). Repeated conversations with Dean emphasize that SDC is not a committee that will die out, especially if she has anything to do with it. See also meeting with her and HR Librarian regarding reasons for suggesting inclusion of IS.

SDC is currently 13 members= 8 Libraries and 5 IS. SDC wants to be administrative. CURRENT PROBLEMS: Too large a group, talking things over too much, members at high-level that have trouble attending, not sure of the direction (Libraries, IS-Wide, etc) in order to be committed to get things done. CCEB strongly encourages understanding from LFA that SDC needs the control to do what it needs to do to get things done.

Comments from Classified Conference Member to CCEB re: Morale

Re email referred to Laura from a member of Classified Conference listing specific morale issues, Laura recommends (in agreement with employee suggestion) talking to Donna Brewer.

CCEB discussion:
- What about supervisor first?
- Group reps survey?
- What about the ALL STAFF/DEAN Q&A?
- CCEB last discussed morale issues [See internal email: RE: GREIVANCES DISCUSSION dated 12/1/2004] and emphasized our role as making recommendations only to the administration.

PROBLEMS IN GENERAL: Feeling that department head will not discuss anything negative with Dean in order not to give the perception that the department is lacking. People/supervisors hyper-attentive to other break/worktime (in inappropriate ways), employees are not going to their supervisor, or dept head with problems.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
Ignore
Recommend taking the line of command
CCEB take it to Donna Brewer

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR DONNA
List of names to contact
Monica and Laura suggest CCEB going to Donna with a pattern of incidents.

Action Items
