ArtLex: Visual Arts Dictionary

Authored by Michael Delahunt, an artist and teacher, ArtLex provides definitions for more than 3,600 terms used in discussing art/visual culture, along with thousands of supporting images, pronunciation notes, quotations and cross-references.

Oxford Art Online

Licensed for KU staff, students and faculty; also available to anyone using a public workstation within the KU Libraries. The new gateway offers users the ability to access and search the Grove Art Online and other Oxford art reference resources in one location. Users can also choose to view biographies, subject entries, or images when searching or browsing. This functionality allows users to access the more than 23,000 subject entries, 21,000 biographies, 500,000 bibliographic citations, 40,000 image links and 5,000 images contained within Grove Art Online. Thematic timelines and learning resources as well as context-sensitive help pages are available throughout the site. Articles are written and signed by scholars and include bibliographic references. Topics include archaeology, architecture, art, design, costume, landscape design, and photography from all world cultures and all time periods will find this an invaluable resource. Easy to use for the novice but with in-depth searching options for the more experienced researcher.

Voice of the Shuttle: Webpage for Humanities Research

Over 70 pages of links to humanities and humanities-related resources on the Internet. A structured and briefly annotated guide to online resources, VoS emphasizes both primary and secondary (or theoretical) resources. Searchable by topics such as archaeology, architecture, art (modern & contemporary), and art history.

World Wide Arts Resources

A large site that includes art news, information on art history resources, movements, & artists, and a directory to websites on art and architecture topics.
