Diversity workshop scheduled for April 20

The Diversity Committee is hosting a professional development workshop for Information Services faculty and staff on April 20.

The event will feature Lewis Diuguid, columnist and vice president of community resources at the Kansas City Star. Diuguid hopes to provide an opportunity for faculty and staff to increase comfort with others who are different, provide tools for better communication and understand biases in order to move past them.

"With an encouraging gentle voice, Mr. Duiguid guides you through the complex issue of diversity that provokes exciting new perspectives about yourself, others and our work organization," said Deborah Dandridge, a member of the Diversity Committee.

Lorraine J. Haricombe, KU Libraries dean, noted that IS faculty and staff were fortunate to have this opportunity. "I am so pleased the Diversity Committee has planned such a thought-provoking and timely workshop," said Haricombe. "This is an increasingly important topic, and the workshop format will likely facilitate a lively discussion."

There are a limited number of seats available and only two sessions offered. Those interested in attending should sign up soon. To download a registration form, please go to www.lib.ku.edu/diversity/diuguid.shtml.
