Requirements for KU Students, Faculty, Staff, and Affiliates

Off-campus access to KU Libraries databases and e-journals

Requires login with valid KU Online ID and Password and current enrollment or employment with The University of Kansas.

In-library workstations including access to KU Libraries databases and e-journals

Requires login with valid KU Online ID and Password.  A limited number of Public Access workstations are available that do not require a login.  A limited number of Library Catalog Only workstations are available.

Electronic Course Reserves

Requires login with password assigned by class instructor to students enrolled in the class.  Non-enrolled individuals do not have access.

Laser printing

Requires KU Card with active Beak ‘em Bucks account and value in account.  No cash options.  Limited free printing is available in Anschutz and Watson Libraries for users who provide their own letter-size paper.  See Copying and Printing for additional information.

Photocopying and microprinting

Requires KU Card with active Beak ‘ em Bucks account and value in account.  Cash options are available for photocopying in all library locations and in some locations for microprinting.  See Copying and Printing for additional information.

Check out circulating library collections

Requires valid KU Card and current enrollment or employment with The University of Kansas.

Online Renewals of circulating library materials checked out for six weeks or longer

Requires current enrollment or employment with the University, login with the KU Online ID and Password or with the KU patron barcode (last 8 digits of the 16-digit number on the front of the KU Card) and last name.  Up to five online renewals are possible provided the items have not been requested by another patron, and the borrower owes less than $80.00 in library fines, fees, and lost item charges.  Proxies log in with proxy barcode number and sponsor’s last name. Place Recalls for items checked out to other borrowers (only items checked out for six weeks or longer may be recalled)

Requires current enrollment or employment with the University, login with the KU Online ID and Password or with the KU patron barcode (last 8 digits of the 16-digit number on the front of the KU Card) and your last name.  Confirmation of the Recall request will require re-entry of the 8-digit barcode when you log on with that number and your last name.  Proxies log in with proxy barcode number and sponsor’s last name.  See Recalling Library Materials for additional information.

ILL and Document Delivery Services (though WebRetrieve login)

Requires current enrollment or employment with the University and a valid email address recorded in Library records.  Requires login with KU Online ID and Password.  Authorized Proxies may use the Proxy ID number and Proxy Sponsor’s last name to log in while making requests on behalf of the Sponsor.

Retrieve from Shelf Service for items with Available status in Library Catalog

Requires current enrollment or employment with the University, login with the KU Online ID and Password or with the KU patron barcode (last 8 digits of the 16-digit number on the front of the KU Card) and your last name.  Confirmation of the Retrieve from Shelf request will require re-entry of the 8-digit barcode when you sign on with that number and your last name.  Proxies log in with proxy barcode number and sponsor’s last name.  See Retrieve from Shelf for additional information.

TripSaver Service for items with Available status in Library Catalog

Requires current employment with the University as Faculty, Staff, or Affiliate and a Lawrence Campus Mail delivery location.  Requires login with KU Online ID and Password or with the KU patron barcode (last 8 digits of the 16-digit number on the front of the KU Card) and your last name.  Also requires selection of “-TripSaver” as the “Deliver to” location.  Confirmation of the request will require re-entry of the 8-digit barcode number when you log on with that number and your last name.  Proxies log in with proxy barcode number and sponsor’s last name.  See TripSaver for additional information.

Proxy Cards

Requires Proxy Sponsor to have valid KU Card and status as KU faculty, graduate student, unclassified staff, or university support staff.  Authorized Proxies must show Proxy Card and personal photo ID to check out library materials on behalf of the Proxy Sponsor.  Service not available to KU Undergraduate Students.  See Proxy Cards for additional information.
