Google Image Search over 250 million images
NYPL Picture Collection Online from the New York Public Library, 30,000 digitized images (mostly created before 1923)
picsearch for pictures and images
Proteus Image Search an excellent gateway to over 30 searchable image collections
TASI a review of image search engines
Visoo images searchable by text in the image or by text in the filename for an image.
Yahoo Image Surfer the image collection is very easy to navigate.

General Search Engines

Use the ADVANCED SEARCH option of a general search engine to find audio-visual materials.   Other types of web search tools you may want to consider are subject guides and directories Internet search engines, metasearch engines, and "Invisible Web" search tools.

Web Sites

AltaVista very large database in terms of pages indexed. Separate searches for image, video or audio files.
Hotbot many powerful searching features in the Advanced search, especially for multimedia.
