Instructions for exporting citations from InSPIRE catalog to EndNote


Before you begin:

Exporting to EndNote from this database will produce a text file that can be manually imported to EndNote, but requires several additional steps. Instructions for importing RIS-formatted text to EndNote can be found here.

Depending on the number of citations you intend to export, it may be more expedient to use Google Scholar instead. Here you can type specific article titles and download citations one-at-a-time. Be sure to use Google Scholar while logged into the KU library for wider access. Step-by-step instructions for exporting citations from Google Scholar to EndNote are available here.


  1. Conduct your search.

  2. Citations will only export one-at-a-time. To export a citation, click on ADS Abstract Service (NOT EndNote) in the options under the title.

  3. In the next screen, scroll down to Retrieve the above record in other formats then use the drop-down arrow by the Return box to select EndNote format (UTF-8).

  4. Now click Retrieve record.

  5. Your output will look something like this below. Copy and paste this text into a Word or Notepad document and save it as a text (.txt) file. Continue to add to the file until you have collected all the references you want, then refer to the instructions located here to import the text file to EndNote.
