KU Libraries faculty and staff honored at annual awards reception

The 2017 KU Libraries faculty and staff award winners were formally recognized at the Celebration of Excellence on Tuesday, September 26.

KU Libraries are delighted to announce the 2017 award recipients: 

Angela Rathmel: Anschutz-Budig Outstanding Librarian Award

This award is presented annually to a library faculty member who demonstrates outstanding initiative in recent professional performance, and made possible by gifts from the Anschutz Foundation and former Chancellor Gene Budig and his wife, Gretchen. The recipient of the 2017 Anschutz-Budig Outstanding Librarian Award is Angela Rathmel, associate librarian and head of the acquisitions and resource sharing department. Since joining KU Libraries in 2000, Rathmel has been known for her positivity and organizational skills. Rathmel recently oversaw the merger of two long-standing departments, using her superb leadership skills. Rathmel’s research interests include information management and organizational communication.

Sarah Couch and Letha Johnson: KU Libraries Staff Excellence Award

The Staff Excellence Award recognizes employees who demonstrate a standard of excellence in work and a significant contribution to the University of Kansas Libraries.

The first 2017 KU Libraries Staff Excellence Award recipient is Sarah Couch, service policy coordinator. Couch is well-known for her knowledge and expertise in university policy. Couch is a key member of the User Services department, and has been with KU Libraries since 1970. She monitors all circulation policies and procedures and helps facilitate compliancy to ensure the best experience for both libraries staff and patrons.

The second 2017 KU Libraries Staff Excellence Award recipient is Letha Johnson, archivist associate. Managing and navigating the records of the university archives, Johnson is an invaluable member of the libraries staff. Johnson is a member of the University Archives department, located at Kenneth Spencer Research Library. Johnson has been a member of the libraries staff since 2008. Her knowledge of internal databases and digital archiving is unrivaled, and she is known to provide wonderful service to all who interact with her.
