"For the People" exhibition to open in the Haricombe Gallery Feb. 19

Friday, February 15, 2019

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas Libraries will open a new exhibition in the Haricombe Gallery in Watson Library on Tuesday, Feb. 19. “For the People: KU Libraries Celebrate 150 Years of Publicly Accessible Government Information” is a transdisciplinary exhibition showcasing research and creative work that explores the intrinsic value of government resources.

As part of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP), KU provides free, local access to a rich source of government information. “For the People” will highlight the vast collection of government resources made available to Kansas residents through the stewardship of KU Libraries.

“KU Libraries are pleased to begin celebrating our 150th year as an FDLP member with our ‘For the People’ exhibition,” said Sarah Goodwin Thiel, coordinator of the Haricombe Gallery exhibitions and events program. “The exhibit highlights just a few of the many accessible resources published by the Government Printing Office, as well as research generated at KU which utilizes openly available federal information. These resources play a significant role in educating and informing people around the world.”

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception. A panel presentation will be moderated by Reggie Robinson, vice chancellor for public affairs. Panelists will include Kathryn Tuttle, associate vice provost emerita; Donna Ginther, director of the Center for Science Technology & Economic Policy and professor of economics; Lester Randall, Kickapoo Tribal Chairman; and Michael McGrew, CEO of McGrew Real Estate. This event is free and open to the public.

Those who plan to attend may RSVP online at rockcha.lk/People or to Kelly Spavin at libevents@ku.edu by Friday, Feb. 15.

The exhibit will be on display through August 2019. Find out more information on KU Libraries’ exhibits at lib.ku.edu/exhibits.
