KU Libraries announce a call for submissions to the first annual exhibition of student art in the Libraries

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

A new program at the University of Kansas will provide students an opportunity to display their artwork in the libraries’ public spaces. “LibArt: Student Art in the Libraries,” a year-long exhibition organized and sponsored by KU Libraries, offers students the experience of participating in an organized show and the opportunity to show their work to thousands of viewers.

All undergraduate and graduate students at KU are eligible to submit up to five works of art for consideration. Two-dimensional art will be considered for physical exhibition and all varieties of work (including three-dimensional and multimedia work) will be considered for digital display.

Applicants must complete an online submission form at where they will upload an image of each submitted work. The submission deadline is midnight on Friday, April 15, 2011. The LibArt committee, whose membership includes library staff and faculty with art and art history backgrounds, will evaluate submissions and notify applicants of the results via e-mail by April 25.

Selections will be made based on artistic merit; the committee’s goal is to select a broad representation of styles, content and media.

Artists whose work has been selected will be asked to deliver their pieces “ready for display” (matted, mounted or framed with hanging wires or fixtures) by May 20. Committee members will manage the hanging and labeling of art in the exhibition.

Art selected for physical display will be exhibited in Watson Library on level 3 and Anschutz Library on level 3 or 4. A digital display will be situated in Anschutz Library level 3.
Works selected for physical display will remain in place through the duration of the exhibition period (August 2011 through May 2012). KU Libraries staff will contact artists to arrange for pick-up of work in May of 2012.
