“Addressing the Grand Challenges with Engineering” presentation on November 2
KU Libraries will host a talk by Dr. Mark B. Shiflett, the second speaker in the fall Gallery Lecture Series lineup on Wednesday, November 2 from 2:30-4 p.m. in Watson Library, Third Floor, Haricombe Gallery. Shiflett, foundation distinguished professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, will present a lecture entitled “Addressing the Grand Challenges with Engineering.”
Shiflett’s lecture describes grand challenges currently facing the Earth, including sustainable energy and access to clean water, due to the Earth’s fragile environment and finite resources. Shiflett will discuss how engineers work to address and find solutions to these modern challenges.
The fall Gallery Lectures Series is developed in conjunction with the Haricombe Gallery exhibition, “Ingenuity @ KU: 125 years of engineering innovation, education and engagement.” The Gallery Lecture Series features interdisciplinary lectures and creative works from scholars and researchers across campus. This lecture is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided. For more information, visit the Gallery Lecture Series webpage.
