Community invited to celebrate Watson Centennial at Library on the Lawn

LAWRENCE — In its continued celebration of Watson Library’s centennial anniversary, KU Libraries welcome the University of Kansas and greater communities to enjoy live music, food and fun at Library on the Lawn, 2-5 p.m. Oct. 23 on the front lawn of Watson Library

In partnership with KJHK 90.7 FM, KU’s student-run radio station, the libraries will host live bands featuring musicians Aud Whitson and Brendan Mott. Free activities with the libraries’ Makerspace team, lawn games, a photo booth, giveaways and library tours are open to all. Food will be available for purchase from food trucks JB’s Tacos and That Gelato & Sorbetto Guy.

In case of rain, some activities will move inside Watson Library to the third floor.

Watson Library is the flagship of KU’s library system, which at 5.8 million volumes is the largest library collection in the state, welcoming nearly half a million visits annually. Learn more about Watson Library centennial celebrations and history by visiting the anniversary webpage.

Campus and greater community members can honor the centennial and support the libraries through a Launch KU campaign. Gifts assist in Watson’s continued evolution as a welcoming and empowering environment for discovery and learning.
