The International Librarian-in-Residence program brings an international scholar, librarian, or information professional to KU Libraries for a short-term residency focused on collaborative research, teaching, and dialogue on global issues in librarianship and information studies. The program emphasizes practical exchange, shared expertise, and mutual learning, and is a core initiative of the Institute for Globally Engaged Librarianship (IGEL).

Residents engage with KU Libraries faculty and staff, connect with campus partners, and contribute to workshops, talks, and other activities that strengthen long-term institutional relationships and advance global librarianship.

Resident:  Dr. Patience Eméfa Dzandza Ocloo
Home institution: Department of Information Studies, University of Ghana
Residency dates: March–August 2026

During her residency, Dr. Ocloo will collaborate with KU librarians and campus partners to explore shared challenges shaping the future of libraries and digital scholarship, with a focus on:

  • Collaborative digital humanities
  • Information literacy
  • Artificial intelligence in libraries

A key emphasis of her work will be adapting approaches developed at KU and other U.S. institutions for use within African library and information contexts.

Dr. Ocloo’s visit builds on an ongoing KU–University of Ghana partnership that has included a Fulbright Specialist visit and co-organization of African Digital Humanities symposia hosted at the University of Ghana in 2024 and 2025, supported by KU units such as the Kansas African Studies Center and the Center for Cyber Social Dynamics.

Faculty, staff, and students interested in meeting with Dr. Ocloo, exploring collaboration, or inviting her to speak with a class or group can contact her at pedzandza@ku.edu or contact IGEL Director Brian Rosenblum at brianrosenblum@ku.edu
