IGEL Programs
List
Global Partnerships
The IGEL Global Partnerships program supports long-term, collaborative relationships between the KU Libraries and international institutions — including libraries, archives, and library schools. These partnerships are tailored to shared goals and may include research collaboration, staff exchanges, joint programming, and professional development initiatives
Global Engagement Fund
The IGEL Global Engagement Fund supports KU Libraries faculty and staff in pursuing international activities that expand global connections and enhance our work. The fund encourages meaningful engagement with partners around the world and helps strengthen KU Libraries’ international presence and impact. This program is available exclusively to KU Libraries faculty and staff.
Global Conversations in Librarianship
Global Conversations in Librarianship is a series of public talks and dialogues highlighting international perspectives on libraries and information work. Speakers share current projects, institutional innovations, or emerging themes that shape the global library community. Held virtually throughout the year, the series fosters dialogue, connection, and collaboration.
International Librarian-in-Residence
The IGEL International Librarian-in-Residence program is an annual residency that brings an international scholar, librarian, or information professional to the University of Kansas to engage in collaborative research, teaching, and dialogue on global issues in librarianship and information studies, with an emphasis on practical exchange, shared expertise, and mutual learning.
International Collections Travel Grants
IGEL International Collections Travel Grants provides modest support for researchers visiting the University of Kansas to engage with KU Libraries’ rich international collections. Recipients are expected to conduct research and participate in a public engagement activity—such as a talk, workshop, or discussion—highlighting the role of libraries and library resources in their work.
Librarian Exchanges
The IGEL Librarian Exchange program facilitates short-term professional residencies between librarians and information professionals at the University of Kansas and partner institutions around the world. Through immersive, reciprocal visits, participants engage in cross-cultural learning, share professional practices, and strengthen global networks.
