New open-access journal: Kansas Undergraduate Journal of International Studies

December 27, 2025

The University of Kansas Libraries’ journal publishing program has added its most recent title: the Kansas Undergraduate Journal of International Studies (KUJIS). From the journal’s About page:

KUJIS is a multi-disciplinary journal for undergraduate research. The journal is a home for research on international or global topics from any appropriate discipline; e.g., International Studies, Political Science, Anthropology, Economics, Sociology, or Gender Studies. It highlights student-driven inquiries supported by qualitative and/or quantitative data and connected to relevant literature. Research must have an international focus, which is normally but not exclusively issues occurring outside of the United States. Otherwise, undergraduate researchers should assume that solid research of any topic with an international concentration could be appropriate for submission.

The journal was founded and is edited by Brian Lagotte, Associate Teaching Professor of Global & International Studies,

KU Libraries’ Journals@KU program hosts and oversees more than 60 open-access journals, and offers a range of services designed to support open-access scholarly publishing. These include technical assistance with journal management software, guidance on best practices, layout and accessibility support, DOI registration, and long-term stewardship of content. Open access ensures that research is freely available to anyone, anywhere, removing barriers to knowledge and enabling a wider audience to engage with scholarship. By providing an open platform for undergraduate work, KUJIS aligns with KU’s mission to foster international engagement while contributing to the Libraries’ longstanding commitment to increasing the visibility, reach, and impact of research.
