Prepare for coming changes to KU libraries systems

KU Libraries – including the Lawrence campus, Wheat Law Library, and KU Medical Center – is preparing to launch a new library services platform (LSP), FOLIO, on June 3, bringing backend upgrades and user-facing changes that will affect how students, faculty, and staff search for and access library materials. Users must save legacy data from Bookbag and My Favorites by May 26.

What's changing for you
The most noticeable change will be to the libraries’ search engine, Quick Search. The current Primo-powered interface will be replaced by EDS (EBSCO Discovery Service) on June 3, with full platform migration completing June 17. The Classic Catalog (Voyager OPAC) will also be retired, with some functions moving to a separate system called Locate, which focuses on print and physical collections.

Core services – including interlibrary loan, renewals, course reserves, and online payments – will remain available throughout the transition, though some may be briefly limited around the go-live dates. Users should also expect a freeze on new purchase and hold requests the week after Memorial Day.

Save your data before the switch
Saved lists from current systems will not automatically transfer to the new platform, so users are encouraged to export their data before the migration. A favorites functionality will exist in the new platform.

Bookbag (Classic OPAC): Items saved in the Voyager Classic OPAC Bookbag must be manually downloaded before migration. See Instructions for Exporting Bookbag

My Favorites (Quick Search): Saved Items, Saved Searches, and Search History from Primo will not carry over. See Instructions for Exporting Primo Favorites

The transition will unify systems across the Lawrence campus, Wheat Law Library, and KU Medical Center while improving functionality for instructors and students and streamlining essential library services. EBSCO FOLIO was selected as the new platform by the libraries in July 2025, and transition work has continued as planned throughout the academic year.
